The Passing Of Grier Manning

Recieved word a few minutes ago that Grier Manning passed away in Colorado Springs today. It is reported Grier broke a hip and passed due to complications. No funeral arrangements at this time but we will forward them when announced. In September I visited with Grier at his shop on Delta Drive in the Springs. At 91 he still opened his shop everyday and admitted he didn’t get much done. We talked of Joe Pittman, Parnelli, Aggie and others, including Paul Klienschmit and his Cadillac powered Champ car when Paul came in the back door. Our condolences to Ken and Ann, and the entire family. GW, BCRA and Hall of Fame.

We have received word that a celebration of life will be planned in the future to celebrate the life of Grier, instead of a public funeral at this time.

  1. I had invited Grier to spend Christmas with my family and when he told me he got around slowly, I asked if I could come and get him, but no luck.
He was one of a kind and was a dear friend. He and Ted Foltz were a real pair and had more stories than I can remember. Many knew him longer than I, but the forty seven years I knew him are priceless.
I remember he had a cat that stayed outside his back door and she would often have kittens. One day he gave one of the kittens to, can’t remember who, and then some time later, Grier received a card in the mail that told of the kittens new life and how it was spent. Grier loved that card, which was very humorous, and was always near-by in his shop.
I will miss him greatly as I am sure he will be missed by many who knew him. God’s Blessings to you Grier and tell Ted hello for me, I know that you are sharing some wonderful memories with each other.

  2. I visited Grier manning every time I was in Springs and last time was Oct. 2016. Please keep me posted as to a celebration of life etc. He was the last of the true gentleman old school repair shop. Loved him to death and so sorry to read about this.. My condolences to the family. 719-456-0597
