Thanks for your Post Michael. Talked with Grier at his shop in October, I found him at the counter as usual and we had a 2 hour visit. He had been in the process of selling off his inventory. Before long Paul Kleinschmidt came in the back door and the conversation turned to Pikes Peak and Jalopies in the 50’s at the Springs, and Doctors. Interesting afternoon, Grier was 91 and Paul 92. Grier will be sorely missed after six decades wrenching and driving Stockers, Midgets(previous RMMRA Champ in ’69)Sprints and Champ cars. Grier embarrased the BCRA boys on the asphalt at Englewood in 1961 with two Feature wins. Grier was a first rate fabricator and if you ever get to the Unser Museum in Albuquerqy take a look at the Vince Conze Offy Grier, Teddy Foltz and Al Sr restored. By the way I often talk to Slims sister in Arizona,She is a great lady. She may know how to get in touch with Sharon, whom Ive never met.
Grier was inducted into the BCRA Hall of Fame in 2011 and was honored in the Colorado Motorsports Hall of Fame as well.
i would like to offer my condolence’s and prayer’s to the Grier Manning family. I grew up watching him race that beautiful red # 42 at Lakeside speedway. Growing up my father [ Tate ] bought my sister and I 1/4 midget’s my sister car # 62 after Joe Giba my car was # 42 after Grier’s car. Leroy Byer’s has a photo of Eddie Jackson sitting in my 1/4 midget. I loved watching Grier he was such a smooth driver and what I remember of ALL around Great guy. My father was on Eddie Jackson pit crew they were best of friend’s. Grier and my father probably new each other quit well as I remember they new each other on a first name basis. Sorry for your loss my thoughts and prayer’s go out to his Family and God Bless ALL. Mike
