In 1940, Ford created 10 V-8 aluminum blocks for testing in light aircraft. Extensive dyno testing yielded buckling of the 1/32 inch cylinder sleeves. The project was discontinued and these blocks disappeared, except one. Ray Schlacter of Louisville Kentucky acquired one of these engines and had it altered to his specifications. The block was bored to receive 3/32 inch sleeves, 97 Stromsberg carbs, vertex mag, a Dick Frenzel Blower and developed 140 BHP at 4000 rpm. Finished weight was 357 lbs nearly 140 lbs. less than the stock cast iron product. Success of this enhanced engine is not known, or if it even still exists.
